Through a collaborative partnership with the R4 Recycling Program, University Dining Services takes pride in practicing processes that reduce, reuse, or recycle valuable resources.
Spot-A-Mug
The waste stream produced by disposable products has been a continual concern, with the rate of consumption among Americans gradually increasing. Items such as paper cups, aluminum cans, and glassware, are all examples of beverage containers that are commonly used today. To reduce the level of waste contributed to landfills, the Spot-A-Mug program was developed.
The purpose of the Spot-A-Mug Program was to give the campus community added incentive for utilizing reusable mugs to help reduce campus waste. R4 staff was given coupons to be passed out to students, staff, and faculty that were spotted using a reusable mug or cup. The coupon, with an expiration date at the end of each academic year, is good for one free fountain beverage refill at participating locations.
So why should you use a reusable mug? Not only are you practicing one of the four R’s: reuse, you are also promoting the environmental sustainability here at UC Davis. By using reusable mugs versus packaged beverage containers, there is a significant reduction in your waste stream. |
