Nutrition Talk

The Nutrition Talk program operates in each dining room throughout the academic year and includes opportunities for you to learn key strategies to eat healthy and exercise right. The program features a nutrition bulletin board loaded with information about the weekly topics addressing some of the most common questions related to nutrition, wellness and exercise. For even greater personalized care, nutrition interns, as well as the resident Registered Dietitian are available to address any of your comments.

Happy, Healthy Apples

UC Davis Dining Services presents the Happy, Healthy Apple program designed to help you choose healthy food to eat.

When you look at our menus, you'll notice from none to three apples next to items on the menu. Both positive attributes of foods and negative attributes of food are considered when assigning a rating to the item.

 is GOOD is BETTERis BEST!

POSITIVE attributes include: food is minimally processed, is nutrient dense, contains heart healthy fat*

NEGATIVE attributes include: food is high sodium, contains exessive sugar, contains additives or questionable preservatives*

The Resident Dining Program is working toward providing nutrition information for all menu items online. Check out the weekly menu for menu options.

Menu Signage

Detailed Menu Signage available at all dining locationsIn addition to the Happy Healthy Apple designation, you can find other valuable information on the menu signage.

Located at both the sample plate area and each format area, the signage tells you what is being served, what is in it, a brief description, a nutrition tidbit and which allergens are in the product (gluten, soy, egg, dairy, peanut, tree nut, fish and shellfish).

If you are allergic to something else, call the Nutrition Hotline (530.752.9604) and let us know so we can identify it for you. On menu signage, the item name in red indicates vegetarian and in blue indicates vegan.  Don't forget to use the happy healthy apples next to the item to help you decide what to pick.
